ABOUT US

The Red Rock Ranch was homesteaded in the 1850's by the Allen family.  It is located about 8 miles east of the town of Huntsville, Utah and 20 miles east of Ogden, Utah in what is referred to as the "Upper Ogden Valley."  The Ranch is nestled among the red rock cliffs of the South Fork Canyon where the Beaver Creek meets the South Fork River on highway 39 and the turn off to Causey Dam.  It was here that the Native Americans wintered.  When the fields are tilled there are still reminants of thier history at the ranch.  From the porch of the cafe which is accross the street from the ranch house you can see Snowbasin ski resort where part of the 2002 Winter Olympic games were held.

The ranch house was started in the 1850's built with dove tailed logs.  It is a two story home that has been a home to many a cowboy and a present haven to many a modern day traveler.  the original spring house for the ranch sits on the Feeny Ditch directly behind the ranch house.  There have been many cans of milk kept cold in the cool mountain water that flows through the ditch.

In the 1900's there were many a good cowboy that learned to rope and ride and even a few got thrown at the weekly Red Rock Ranch Rodeo's.  So it was only natural for the Ranch to start raising the greatest roping, team penning and bulldogging stock around.

We along with our family took over ranching operations in 1991.  The Red Rock Ranch is a known producer of some of the most proven quality Corriente Cattle in the country.  Our foundation herd sires were Cates Bull 216, a large gentle black bull with an outstanding heavy horn base and perfect confirmation.  Out of Cates Bull 216 we raised Red Rock Bull 88 who placed 6th at the North American Corriente Association national show in 2000.  Red Rock Bull 812 "Pico" was reserve grand champion at the national show in Winnemucca in 2000 in the two year old bull class.  In 2001 Red Rock Bull 812 was Grand Champion at the Pacific Northwest Corriente Association.  He is presently owned by Roy and Connie Elsner of the Rawhide Ranch in Elko, Nevada.  We are presently using Cates Bull 801 a smaller light boned solid balck, very quick athletic bull with a great horn base and a wonderful confirmation.  Cates bull 801 is out of Cates Cow 562 which is out of Cates Bull 920 and Cates Cow P129.  Cates Bull 920 was born in 1989 and was Progeny in the NACA herdbook.  Currently, Cates Bull 920 has 299 offspring registered.  Cates Bull 801 placed 4th at the South West Corriente Association show in 2000.  Cates Bull 801 placed 5 at the National show in 2000 as a two year old bull.  He is a consistant producer of top quality black calves who are also extremely athletic and also with great horn shape and a strong horn base.

We chose to invest in Corriente Cattle because they are efficient and easy keepers.  For example:  where you raise 6 herfords you can raise 10 Corriente on the same space.  You can rope them for two years and then if they are steers you can bulldog them if they are heifers you can breed them.  The

steers can be bulldogged for an additional two years.  At this point you still have a very viable animal.  The meat of the Corriente is delicious with a very full flavor and lower cholesterol and somewhat leaner than other traditional breeds.
